The Alethic Innovations logo is highly symbolic (and no, it has nothing to do with the illuminati, sadly).
For context, Alethic Innovations is about improving judgment and decision making, primarily by improving how accurate or true our judgments are. Because of the centrality of accuracy or truth to Alethic Innovations, that is why it is called “Alethic”—a word derived from the Greek word for truth (alētheia).
To symbolize truth or aletheia, the Alethic Innovations logo is in the form of an “A”.
But it also has more symbolism than that. Since eyesight is the primary means of obtaining truth about the physical world, the eye in the logo is intended as a symbol for obtaining truth more generally—a central purpose of Alethic Innovations.
Beyond that, though, the triangle shape of the logo is also symbolic. In particular, the Greek symbol lambda, denoted with Λ, played a central role in one of the logical systems from Rudolf Carnap, one of the pioneers of probabilistic logic. In Carnap’s system, the lambda symbol was often interpreted as an indicator of the weight given to empirical and non-empirical considerations when assigning particular probabilities. More generally, then, we could extend the interpretation of lambda as a metaphor for forming judgments on the basis of both empirical considerations (like statistics) and non-empirical considerations (like laws of probability), both of which are essential to accuracy.
For that reason, then, the Alethic Innovations logo combines the A from “Alethic”, the eye from eyesight and the lambda from logic, thereby constituting a multi-layered symbol of the concept that is central to our work: namely, truth.
